New Site Layout!

Ok, its late – 2:30am Saturday morning.  But I’ve done it!  RickMahn.com has a new layout.  I’ve leveraged a 3-column theme here on the blog, and have gotten to use several new features that I had been planning on for some time.  And it only took 4 hours to do!

The nice part about this layout is that the main body of every post has much more room for text and pictures.  It also has a bit cleaner CSS structure for text, bullets and the like.  Another neat feature was the support for sidebar widgets in WordPress – it made it much, much easier to set up all the specialized items that I had on the original configuration.

Well, off to get some rest – I’ve got a lot of work to do tomorrow.  Hopefully, we’ll get a chance to go to the Power Sports show in downtown Minneapolis – one can hope anyway.

Windows Live Writer – More Info

Hey!  If you blog, I feel you need to try out Windows Live Writer.

Microsoft has IMO, a killer offline blogging tool.  It does everything I wanted in an offline editor, and the tie-in to the Windows Live Toolbar is incredible.

WLW works with WordPress, Blogger, Moveable Type, and LiveJournal in addition to Windows Live Spaces.  The functionality is at the right level, and allows you to preview, create drafts, store drafts online/offline, and work with pictures, maps, fonts, and colors right in the interface.

It also has my most desired feature – a spell checker built right in.  While still in beta, it feels like a shipping product, and I’ve covered only a fraction of the features of this great freebie from MS.

What keeps you from blogging?

Easton Ellsworth talks about how his passion and interest in reading sometimes keeps him from blogging and asks what is the biggest time-waster for everyone else.  I know what he means, I’ve got around 120 feeds that I follow daily, and would not be able to do that if it were not for RSS Readers!  It takes up a lot of time.
But even aside from reading, simply needing to do the work necessary for the day job takes up most of my time.  While I love blogging, it currently doesn’t pay the bills, and I’m making a little progress in ‘climbing the corporate ladder’, so I might as well stick it out awhile longer.

Hmm, other than that I guess I’d have to add that simply taking time to relax and spend some ‘down time’ is another thing that takes time away from blogging for me.  This is kind of frustrating in a way because I have a few ‘special project blogs’ that I’m trying to make progress on, and simply can’t find more time to get them to that magical point yet.

Anyway, I’m curious as well – what keeps you from, or interrupts you from blogging?
