Bravo to Google for updating Docs & Spreadsheets with a refined interface and a few new features. Now there is a sidebar with folders for organizing and easier visual queues to where your documents are. Another new feature is the ability to sort documents by collaborator. This is a great enhancement for multiple users, where they would like to view documents based on who created or edited them. Finally, an enhanced search feature with auto-complete is included.
Check it out!

Well Microsoft finally released the new “Live” version of Hotmail. Since I’ve been using it for several months, I haven’t been able to talk much about it. Not that its features have been much of a secret, but I’ll hit the highlights here and let others offer up true reviews of the service.
It pretty much matches up the features that GMail has had for several years, and give users a full 2GB. Yeah, GMail still offers more but who really is using that much more space for emails? Archive & purge – that’s my motto.
The interface is quite familiar to most Microsoft customers – it mimics Outlook in a remote way, using AJAX techniques to it’s benefit. The interface usability is a winner over GMail for the average user. GMail is much, much faster however, because of the simpler mostly text-based interface.
Since my Hotmail account is the one account I’ve had for well over a decade (can’t remember exactly), it had been relegated to junk-mail duty for years. Meaning when I didn’t trust an online form – I used my Hotmail account. Since the service has been revamped, spam protection built in, search capabilities (quite good), and much needed space upgrade – I may find a new use for this account yet – or possibly move my hosted GMail accounts over to Hotmail… don’t know on that one yet.

Well I’ve finally found the article that I was interviewed for by the Wall Street Journal – though I found it at The Baltimore Sun instead. The article by Jessica E. Vascellaro details the current crop of available online storage options from Box.net to XDrive.
WSJ interviewed me for my experiences using XDrive, though I also use Box.net as well. There are differences between them in usability and performance, but the simple ability to get at your most critically important files from anywhere is very powerful.

Zoho Writer is now integrated with EchoSign. This kind of cooperation and partnering is what breads great products. The enhancements just updated on Zoho Writer entice me to use the product more than Google Writer for example.
Also updated/added is support for Box.net, another online service I use, and blogging tweaks to make posting from ZW easier.

Congratulations to James Kendrick who has moved over to Google Reader from Onfolio. GR is really one of the best-done online feed readers (the best IMHO), with simple easy to remember/use keyboard shortcuts, lightweight AJAX interface that is quick to render, and the ability to mark items for future reference.
Another feature that I’ve been using for a few months is the Shared Items feature that allows you to mark posts/articles that should be shared for someone reading your Shared Items to view. Nifty little thing that you can link to from your blog so people can read the same sources that you do!
After reading how well GR works on a Tablet or UMPC, I really need to check one out. Definitely on my “short list” of to do’s!
