What I Learned From 2008

image I have to hand it to blogging friend and fellow SOBCon 2008 alumni Robert Hruzek of Middle Zone Musings.  His monthly What I Learned From… series morphed into a fantastic display of blogging talent from around the web in January of this year.

Robert opened his blog to anyone interested in sharing a list of their posts from their blogs.  Calling it BLOGAPALOOZA! – What I Learned From 2008, this blogging extravaganza has featured some of the best writing talent you can find on the ‘net.

You can find my post here – just posted today actually.  So I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Robert for the chance to share some posts of mine from 2008, and be part of a great group blogging project that has accumulated well over 100 entries so far.

So Robert, here’s a “tip o’ the hat” to you for organizing BLOGAPALOOZA 2008.

Happy Birthday Liz

Lorelle, Liz, Starbucker at SOBCon08 I’d like to take a minute and send birthday wishes to Liz Strauss.  Liz writes over at Successful Blog about blogging and business, and is one of my favorite bloggers on the topic. She has a way of getting people involved, bringing them to engage with others and do great things.

Happy Birthday Liz!

I met Liz before really meeting her, as most of us bloggers usually do. Following her blog, she helped me find a few things that I didn’t know I wanted to do. Liz is one of these kinds of people who you really want to meet, to talk with, to learn from.

Luckily I was able to meet Liz in person at SOBCon08 in Chicago this spring. In classic Liz form, she brought together a fantastic event that really connected bloggers to each other, and has helped form a number of friendships and working groups that would never have had the opportunity to get started without Liz’s efforts.

I want to thank you Liz for all the great conversations you’ve started, for the things you share & teach, for the introductions to folks, for the tips & suggestions, and for making things happen. You’re an inspiration, a teacher, an instigator, an organizer, but mostly to all of us, your a friend.

Happy Birthday Liz!

And I can proudly say, that because of Liz, I’m an SOB!

Weekend Work

Hi folks, hope everyone is having a good weekend everywhere!  I’ve been quietly busing working on some improvements for the blog here and getting ready for my wife’s birthday today.  So, I’m a little thin in the post department this weekend, and I apologize for that.  Have been finding a lot of organizational work on the back end, thinking, coding, and a little writing.

It’s been three weeks since SOBCon08 and a lot of what I learned there and talking with folks has started to coalesce and become clearer.  So that thought process and the results are taking up quite a bit of time to organize and plan around.  Thanks to all the folks who I’ve talked with and learned from this past month, it’s been really fun.

Now, make sure you get out and do something this weekend – have fun!

Why Chris Garrett does NOT suck at speaking

SOBCON08 Sitting here at SOBCon08 and Chris Garrett just finished his session “More Bang from Your Blog”. His delivery of his presentation helped identify direction and focus for many of us who struggle in creating good content.

The challenge at the end of the session was to create a 5-minute post, something that Chris used during his presentation. You can find Chris Garrett at www.chrisg.com.
