MDA (Lack of) Volume Control

So my newly upgraded MDA seems to have different volume levels for different sounds. The phone has one level, media player another (both within my expectations) and a different one for reminder sounds.

Yikes!

When a reminder goes off, it seems like 3 times as loud as the ring tone. I’ve been through the sound & volume settings a dozen times, but can’t get a handle on what’s driving the higher reminder volumes.

I also run Pocket Informant and Pocket Breeze for PIM management and Today Screen display of information. Both of these applications don’t have settings for reminders or sounds.

Its baffling me, I’ve never run across this in 5 years of PPC ownership. Definitely the old ROMs for the MDA and other variants like the Qtek and iMate don’t exhibit this volume issue.

Anyone else see this?

New Firmware Update for T-Mobile MDA (US)

Well, talk about pleasent surprises – T-Mobile Sunday released the AKU 2.3 firmware update for their MDA.  You can find more information about my MDA here, but if you want to download the new firmware yourself, go here.

The update includes the long-awaited push-mail update and support for Bluetooth stereo audio (A2DP).  Watch for more info – I’ll be upgrading tonight!

MDA, Voice Command, and Bluetooth Headsets

So I’m trying to use Microsoft’s Voice Command with a Bluetooth headset without success…until I found the work-around over on Geek.com!

This post at Geek.com details how to change the default action on an HTC Wizard (such as my MDA), to use Voice Command instead of the built-in voice dial software.  If you’re running into the same problem you can apply this work-around to your device and enjoy the benefits of Voice Command without needing to pull your phone out of your pocket.

Yet another MDA review

Michael Oryl over at MobileBurn has posted a review on the MDA.  As per Michael’s usual ‘MO’, his review is quite detailed, and full of great pictures of the device, camera samples, battery testing, etc.  Michael always does a thorough review of the devices he writes about.

Highly recommended if you’re on the fence about buying an MDA (or Cingular 8125 for that matter).
