Darren Rowse of ProBlogger fame makes a good point, and one that most bloggers agree with. Opening links in the existing window rather than a new window is less intrusive and a more intuitive solution to the question.

Location based, or presence applications are a valuable addition to any web worker – try them out and see how they can benefit your needs to find local events and resources.
