Team evaporation

Its amazing how one new individual added to a team can start to disolve the well understood relationships within.  This is happening at work, and unfortuntely, I don’t think I can work with the result.  We’ve added a new manager for one are of our department, and he seems to be too intent on playing the role of “manager” than being a team member.

The approach is quite remenicent of isolationism than anything else I’ve seen recently, and is really rubbing a number of other groups the wrong way.  Too bad, because he has the ability to shape his group in a whole new way, but I don’t know if he’s going in the right direction yet.  He sure pissed me off – ’nuff said (for now).

Taking Risks…

Kathy Sierra has a great post called Do Something Scary.  She quotes Eleanor Roosevelt who said “Do one thing every day that scares you”, and continues talking about trying new things (taking risks) and expanding your experiences.  This is something I’ve been trying to do for the last few weeks, and have had a few minor successes (at least in my book), so I’m going to keep tacking new risks, try new things.
The post is a really good read, you should also check out Death by risk-aversion, another post by Kathy.

Custom WordPress Theme

Well I finally decided its time to dig into the WordPress Codex and learn how to create a custom theme. I’ve kind of liked the layout I have here using the Contempt theme designed by Vault9, but I think I need my own design, my own style. The hardest part for me will probably be the graphics as I’m not a graphic designer. Though I think a little assistance from my wife Amy, I’ll be able to muddle through.

This’ll probably take a few days to create and tweak so watch for it in about a week or so.

Checking up on the house…

So we’re off to see what progress is being made on our townhouse since the middle of April.  We’re scheduled to close in August and there is a lot of work to do.  Hopefully there’ll be a bit done, however it’s been raining on & off for the last two weeks (this coming week doesn’t look much better) and may have impacted progress.

As a side note, I’m working on the 8700c review and will try to take some pics of the device at work tomorrow to help round out the piece.  More later!
