Microsoft Word 2007 Beta 2 First Look

Well, I had written this post in Word 2007, but it didn’t publish to my blog… strange. Anyway, here was my post (at least written in Word ’07):

Yep, this post is going up from Word 2007 directly to my blog. If the blog-posting features of Word are enhanced a bit, I will definitely start using it for major post creation. The overall quality of Office 2007 so far is impressive. I’ve been testing Vista for awhile, but this was my first look at the Office 2007 betas. Neat stuff, though you can see some rough edges. Performance is ‘ok’ and should be improved as it approaches release. Currently, there are no extra features for blog-posting to WordPress, though I do expect that they will start to work on these soon. For example, categories are not supported directly from Word yet, and they claim that the post date is incorrect (I’ll check when I post). The last time I used an off-line tool to write and then publish a post, it would ‘break’ my page layout (theme), so I’m hoping that Word doesn’t do this; though I will risk it just to test the functionality. So far, I’m impressed with the current build, the new toolbars are extremely easy to understand and use right away – I think these are the single best improvement to the Office suite. More on the product later…

Ugh, in my haste I managed to forget to paste the Title in, so the post slug will be weird.  Guess Word ’07 isn’t quite up to the task of blog posting yet.  ‘Darn’.

HTC Wizard Web Redesign

Thought I’d drop a quick mention about a minor redesign over at HTC Wizard Web.  Congrats to Stanley on the redesign, and to Rudy for the winning logo.
HTC Wizard Web is a great resource for any owner of an HTC Wizard based device.  That includes T-Mobile MDA, Cingular 8125, IMate K-JAM, and Qtek 9100.

MobileBurn reporting Moto Q on May 31st

Well it almost looks like Verizon is commiting to releasing the Moto Q on May 31st.  Guess I’ll believe it when I see it.  Sounds like a great phone, and the sooner it gets into the public, the better for all smarphone users in the end.

Next we need to get the new ‘HTC Star Trek’ clamshell phone out onto the carriers networks.

Early preview of Treo 700p

There is a nice preview of the Treo 700p posted over at Brighthand.  AdamaDBrown describes the initial observations on the device including EVDO connectivity on the Sprint network.  Also touched on is the higher resolution display, and the ability to use the device as a wireless modem.  It looks like a solid device that builds on the previous successes of the Treo 650s and the Windows Mobile based 700w.

Is the blogosphere in a slump?

I’ve noticed it – have you?  There seems to be a certain lack of excitement overall right now.  Yeah, there are some highlights here and there as events happen, and so on.  But from my perspective, the last month has been quite a bit light on fresh conversations.  Even right now, a number of discussions are just on blogging, maintaining momentum, and making the most efficient use of advertiseing.  Neat stuff to be sure, and I’m learning a lot… but where is the excitement, the passion, the inspiration that seemed to be abundant just a few months ago?

Maybe its just the advent of spring in the northern hemisphere – more people getting out enjoying the outdoors, or getting started on spring/summer vacations, etc…

I guess I’m just curious if anyone else is noticing the same thing, or if I’m just in a ‘funk’ right now.

My Fresh Blogging Perspective

So I’ve been doing a lot of thinking about what I’m doing blogging.  Over the last 7-8 months, it has become one of my top interests and yet the last few weeks I have been having a really hard time with it.

The problem, as usual, is me.  I’ve been holding back, not really sure how to express my views or ideas.  The problem stems from my discomfort of conflict I think.  While I shy from it, I also don’t hold back once the ‘mud’ starts flinging.  More often than not, I end up getting frustrated, mad and sorry that I was not able to communicate effectively.

But that discomfort has held me back, and I want to talk about more than I have in the past.  I want to discuss things, be a real part of the  conversation rather than parroting others, which I feel like I’ve done.  I want to posit my opinion and viewpoint on a topic rather than simply put a link to a cool post somewhere.

My limited exchange of posts and links with a number of bloggers has really whetted my appetite for real interactive communication.  I’ve found a lot of great blogs, with a lot of great viewpoints.  I’ve learned a lot in the last few months, most of it from blogs I’ve followed from the A-List to the Z-List (that’s me!), and everywhere in between.
All the concepts on blogging, the ideas for revenue generation, the fun stuff, the serious stuff – its really moved me down the road to a point where I thought I already was.  For quite awhile I thought I was participating, but looking back I think that I’ve only been ‘lurking’, if you will.  Kind of participating around the edges, though not enough to really provoke much response, or to start a thread.

This is where you’ll see a difference in what I write – this is where I’m going to let my passion for blogging, mobile communications (and more) explore to its fullest.
