Thoughts and things I care to shareFCC Auction 66 ends, bringing in $13.7 Billion
So the latest FCC wireless auction ends after 28 days of intense bidding.รย T-Mobile did well, gaining significantly needed spectrum across the country.
T-Mobile USA Inc. was the big spender of the auction, winning 120 licenses with bids totaling nearly $4.2 billion. The fourth-largest U.S. carrier gained spectrum across the country, including licenses in the large markets of New York, Los Angeles and Chicago. As soon as the auction closed, T-Mobile USA put out a statement saying that it will not immediately reveal its plans for the spectrum.
This is very exciting news for me as a T-Mobile subscriber.รย While their EDGE data service is great, I can’t wait for 3G data speeds!

Microsoft Introduces Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE)
Interesting, I was wondering when Microsoft would include the recently purchased technologies of WinInternals/SysInternals into the Windows product.
Looks like the new “Windows RE Notes” blog details the upcoming components, though there is only an introductory post at this time. Based on Windows PE, Windows RE will provide a recovery environment for Windows installations that have gone sour.
Neat stuff, and if this is based on some WinInternals technology, I wouldn’t be surprised. This will be an awesome tool for system administrators and others who support desktop and server OS installations. Check out at the link below.

Quick Post
I thought that I would drop a quick post over lunch. I’m down in the lobby of the office, kicking back with some Damn Yankees.
Had to get away from the desk for a little bit if you know what I mean. ๐ Putting my phone through it’s paces reading news, posting, and listening to tunes. Kind of fun when it all works.
Back to work
So I’m back in the office for the first time in two weeks! Time to catch up on all those emails and vmails – fun. ๐
One thing for sure, being back does indeed make one think more about what we do and how we impact each other. During my absence, we lost our COO to cancer. JD was a great curmudgeon with an anecdote for any occasion. He will be missed.
Class Reunion
Hard to belie its been 20 years since graduation! Recently, one of my classmates tracked me down with an invitation to our 20th anniversary of our high school graduation.
While I won’t be able to make it, I want to say hi to everyone in our class from 1986! Also a hello to everyone in Spring Valley, WI (see Google Map), and a thank-you to Shelly for getting the invitation to me.
Thanks!
Relaxing week
Sorry not to have posted for awhile, I’ve had the last two weeks off work during the move and some extra time to myself. The last few days I’ve actually left the computer off and got out a little bit.
Amy and I explored the downtown area and got our daughter set up in her new school. Ah, the kids grow up so fast – not enough time to spend with them some times.
So next week its back to work, back to the grind. It’ll be nice to get back in the grove, get in touch with everyone at work and get moving forward on some of the projects again.
I’ve got some work to do on my commute as well – back to driving at least 30 minutes one way. I’ve been contemplating some alternatives, but will be using our old Ranger pickup for now. It’ll be a decent winter commuter, but by spring I hope to move to something a bit better on gas – and more fun. I’m thinking a motorcycle, not sure what yet exactly.
Anyway, I found that having a lot more time on my hands, I spent less blogging. Not too bad – actually had some fun the last two weeks in addition to the work of moving. I’ve just got to get back up to speed on news and such, haven’t read a thing during the break.
