- The rumors are true – here is a Dell Official with a short video introducing the Tablet PC. Though it will be in the corporate-focused Latitude line, details and a model name was not mentioned. More to be reveiled in the fall, which just so happens to b
- Looks like AMD isn’t out of the race yet (thank goodness), as it has a rival to Intel’s Centrino platform in the works. Puma, as its called, hits all the same mobile power saving points and features that Centrino is famous for including support for the u
Theme update, not 100% happy…
There was an update to the theme I’m using here on my blog, and there are a number of updates that work well, but I just don’t like how it handles images and links on my sidebar. I really don’t want certain images to have a shadow under them, and I also don’t want some links to have an underline or hover action. My tweaks to the CSS file just don’t work any more and I’ve got to print it all out to understand what the author did. Just takes time from other things.

- Interesting turn of events – this will be helpful for many ISPs.
WiFi or Wireless WAN?
Kevin C. Tofel over at jkOnTheRun poses a very interesting question: Would you give up integrated WiFi for WWAN? Some UMPC devices only have one mini-PCI slot, and could accommodate either a WLAN or WWAN module. Or its possible that one may want on or the other, to keep weight in the computer down, and eliminate one power drain – WiFi is terribly power-hungry.
With 3G services like EVDO and/or HSDPA, you have a nearly equivalent Internet connection speed as a WiFi connection (remember its the cable/DSL connection speed that may limit your Internet at a Hotspot). The only downside would be associated computers at your office or residence, but if you are talking only about a Ultra Mobile PC – it may be an Internet-only device anyway.
Thoughts?

Twitter Problems?
Is twitter having problems today? I haven’t been able to log in all morning. Well, that is the growing pains of a beta service.

- It seems that every year, as the shrinking market and usefulness of non-connected, or non-phone devices is used to scream out a headline like this one at Information Week. “Market for HANDHELD Devices Continues to Shrink!!” (The sky is falling!). Doh!

- I was able to learn about a number of these technologies at Windows Connections earlier this spring, but it’s nice to see the products hitting the market at last. Should provide many more options to individuals & businesses looking for solutions.
UStream – Can it be the tipping point for consumer TV?
I’ll admit to not being really interested in YouTube. Yes, I found some fun old videos, watched the Mento’s & Diet Coke vids, and so on. But I really wasn’t interested in it too much.
What YouTube does do well, is provide a consistent platform for publishing user-created videos. It does this very well, indeed. But what if you wanted to broadcast live video? Doesn’t do that does it? One of the few sites that can is UStream.tv.
Providing a Flash-powered, interestingly easy to use interface, UStream.tv makes it really easy to capture video from a local USB cam, and stream it in realtime over the Internet via a page on their site. You can find my “show” here! I must use the term “show” loosely when applied to me, but the limit is up to your imagination. There are many user-created shows that have interesting dialog, content, and many times interviews or tours of interesting places.
Two of the shows I have been following are Chris Pirillo, and Jeremiah Owyang. It’s an interesting service, especially if you are interested in Internet video and new media. I happened to find it via the ever omni-present Robert Scoble, when he was testing the service before the Web 2.0 conference.
For those wondering, there are user-based controls and tools to report inappropriate uses, and there is a voting/rating system that works quite well. It seems to me that UStream.tv is targeting a wide range of users, from business, to enthusiast, to… anyone. Very neat site with huge potential.
