Scobleizer – Tech Geek Blogger » Is Microsoft really the largest blog vendor?

Robert has another great discussion going on his blog. Seems that a Windows Live team member was bragging a bit.

Yesterday someone who works on the Windows Live team was taunting me with “influentials don’t matter, we got to be #1 and we don’t care that there aren’t any influential bloggers using our stuff.”

Boy, this person didn’t think ahead when they spouted off. Its about time we take a closer look at Msft’s claim to be the largest blogging host in the world. They very well may be, but I also take issue with their argument that all the Live Spaces are really blogs.

Robert is on a mission to identify a more realistic understanding of what is the real makeup of Live Spaces compared to more traditional blogging platforms like TypePad and WordPress.

Today I see that George Moore, General Manager of Windows Live, just told a crowd in New Zealand that Windows Live is “now the largest blogging service on the planet.” At least according to Richard MacManus, who I’ve found to accurately report past events, and who is at TechED in New Zealand.

What do you think, is Live Spaces a serious blogging platform, or is it a social networking environment like My Space?

Feel like blogging

I’m not going to say that I’m back into the blogging grove, but something happened when I got home tonight.  Just seemed like the right time to pound through some posts.

I don’t know how many I’ve written tonight for both sites, but I’ve got a good rhythm going so I’ll try to get some items posted.  Not sure that I’ll feel the same way the rest of the week, but we’ll see how it goes.

I’ve got an idea or two that I’m going to try to incorporate into my schedule this week to see how it goes.  One of the things I’ve tried to do (and failed) is to get out of the office during lunch to get a fresh perspective.  I used to do this a lot before we moved into the city, and something that I hope to get back to once we leave the city.

The day always goes a little smoother when you leave the office for an hour and have some time to think, thrash to some tunes, or simply watch the clouds go by.  We’ll see if I can keep making the time to do that.

Quad-core is On the Way – CrunchGear

Ok, I’m in for quad-core chips as well!  My only question is one of software licensing though.  If I remember Microsoft’s OS licensing correctly, XP will recognize up to 2 processors, Server Standard supports 4, Enterprise supports up to 16, and on and on.

Am I remembering correctly or will the shipping version of XP (and presumably Vista) only support 2 processors and not the full 4 in the core?

Hope I’m wrong, anyway read CrunchGear’s post on Intel’s chip plans.

NSA’s warrantless wiretapping program halted by judge – The Wireless Report

I’ve just got to pipe up on this one.  From what I understand of the laws and constitution, this is fully within the realm of the government’s ability and responsibility.  To fully protect the citizens of the United States, this activity by the NSA is well within the limits of constitutional law.

The simple point I have with this is that we need this data mined to track down ALL terrorists, regardless of race, religion, or persuasion.

To maintain the safety and integrity of this country (and the world), we need to track down and dispatch groups that would otherwise flourish on the carnage and chaos that they cause.  This needs to be done before events like 9/11, the Tokyo & London bombings, and the current activity in Lebanon take place.

While I understand the intention of this Judge and the ACLU, this action should only be taken by congress, where everyone in the country is represented, not by the judiciary.  Wrong place for this action.

For those who disagree with my position – that’s fine.  In fact I’m glad that you have an opinion!  Let’s debate this in the proper theater (congress) instead of a side-show circus that the ACLU usually attempts.

You have to fight fire with fire.

That’s my motto.

HTC Excalibur gets FCC nod – Engadget Mobile

Engadget has the good stuff today!

Check this out, the HTC Excalibur is being approved for distribution in the US. This QWERTY equipped Smartphone with landscape QVGA screen is built by HTC, the same company responsible for the HTC Wizard and other fantastic Pocket PC & Smartphone designs.

Rumored to be a Moto Q killer, the HTC Excalibur is a Microsoft Smartphone based device with the standard compliment of Bluetooth, WiFi, and GSM/GPRS/EDGE support. Look for this on the Cingular or T-Mobile networks, though there is no indication at this time as to which carrier will pick it up first. I hope both will snap this bad boy up ASAP!
