New theme and layout
Hi all!
If you’re reading this on the web, you’ve noticed a new look & feel for my blog here. What I was going after was a cleaner “white space” look with a changing header graphic.
The new theme is “Water3″ by The Undersigned which is a variation of his standard, dual column “Water” theme. I’ve created some [...]
Spam Overload in December
So I’ve gotten spammed royally in December. The last two days alone I’ve gotten 863 spam comments.
So far this month the problem has been much worse than in past months. Total, I’m now over 12.5K spam messages since last February, with the bulk of them in the last 90 days.
By the way, sorry for [...]
Widget Question #1
I’ve been adding a lot of “stuff” to the blog lately, lots of widgets and such that seemed like they added value. I’ve made use of a lot of services like digg, NewsVine, ClipMarks, and del.icio.us, but I’m not sure if they add value to the reader or just more visual clutter.
So I’m [...]
Akismet: 10,196 spam comments and counting
So far, Akismet has caught 10,196 spam comments on this blog. More than I had thought would be targeted in the first place. I have to give a tip of the hat to Automattic – the company that created Akismet, the WordPress plugin that combats comment spam. Its simply a top-notch tool for any WordPress blogger.

Snap Preview Anywhere
Ok, so I’m trying out this service/plugin called Snap Preview Anywhere. Snap is a search engine, but their unique twist is to generate live previews of the search results. So before you click on a given search result, yo can view the preview to decide if you want to visit the site, or move on to [...]
Widgets are the new black
Everywhere I’ve turned the last week or so, some new widget deal has been announced. While there are some really cool widgets and obviously some really great uses for them, does everyone want to load down their sites with these things? How much performance is sucked out of a site when building in all these [...]
New daily links
You may have noticed that there are some daily links being posted every day (or mostly every day). I’ve set up my Del.icio.us favorites to post the links I tag every day to my blog.
The point in this is to let you find the articles and blogs that I’ve run across during the day, so [...]
New Site Layout!
Ok, its late – 2:30am Saturday morning. But I’ve done it! RickMahn.com has a new layout. I’ve leveraged a 3-column theme here on the blog, and have gotten to use several new features that I had been planning on for some time. And it only took 4 hours to do!
The nice part about this layout is that [...]
Google Reader – Rick’s shared items
I finally got a chance to start using the “Share” feature in Google Reader. Its very cool, when you share a story/post from a feed in Google Reader, it is added to you’re Google Reader Link Blog. Mine is located here.
It’s impressive, because it pulls the full post from the original site, and adds a [...]
