Cross Country

It’s amazing, sometimes, how easily we forget how big, how expansive our country is. The time it takes to drive across one state or another is not inconsequential and each time the scenery is worth paying attention to. The diversity of the landscapes always impresses me.
From the sweeping agricultural plains to the industrial and [...]

Bloggers Lounge at SXSW

Ok, it’s my first day at SXSW, and I’ve already run into about 10 online friends in the first hour here at the Austin Convention Center.
I decided to start the day in the Bloggers Lounge, which most of the folks I’ve connected with online over the last many years.  The lounge is set up with [...]

Getting The Message Across

Sometimes I get tired of telling the same story, but very often, that’s exactly what it takes to induce change. That change is the very root of social media and its associated tools, networks, and concepts. Since everyone learns at a different pace, and in different ways, it becomes necessary to relate the concepts [...]

Building Internal Community

Doesn’t it seem like we talk a lot about social media as a tool for sales or marketing?  It certainly is a great channel for that in the right context, and the right usage.  I’m curious how many folks who talk about building a community for their customers have thought about building community for [...]

It depends…

Funny how many questions have answer that start with those two words. This tends to be exceptionally true of the coporatization of social media.

What if I call my boss a jerk on Twitter? It depends…
What if we find bloggers defacing our product images?  It depends…
What if my company finds me posting on Facebook when [...]

Undiscovered Opportunities of the C-Suite

Sometimes you don’t know what you have in front of you. The opportunity to change.
That’s what lies before today’s C-Suite executives if they choose to explore it. What I’m talking about here, of course, is really about relationships. With the advent of social computing in the second half of this decade, the [...]

A Note For SPAM Marketers On Twitter

It’s been there for awhile, quite awhile really.  I’ve been able to ignore it for the most part, though it is getting a bit old.
I’m talking about those MLM types, thinking they can gain some advantage through sheer following numbers on Twitter.  Fancy schemes to gain thousands of new followers in 48 hours or [...]

What I Learned From 2008

I have to hand it to blogging friend and fellow SOBCon 2008 alumni Robert Hruzek of Middle Zone Musings.  His monthly What I Learned From… series morphed into a fantastic display of blogging talent from around the web in January of this year.
Robert opened his blog to anyone interested in sharing a list of [...]

FeedBurner-Google Migration Complete

This was a frustrating experience, but in the end worked out like it should.  I have to admit that the actual migration by FeedBurner to using my Google account went well, and the existing feeds redirected to the new FeedBurner/Google domain that handles them.
The biggest issues for me were the longer-than-expected reader-count anomaly, and the [...]

Moved FeedBurner Feeds

Well, I finally got around to moving my FeedBurner account to my Google account.  Not sure if I did something wrong, or if I just need to wait a few days.  It seems that I can’t see any items in my feed now, as I monitor it in Google Reader.
Has anyone else done this and [...]
