Chris,
You make a great point, that I frequently fail to communicate clearly. It's not the tools, it's the reason for using those tools. As for social media vs. corporate blogging, blogging is of course just one technology in the social media toolkit.

Sure sites like Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, LinkedIn get enough press covereage that they are considered "social media" by themselves. It's a shame that it's so easy to create buzzwords and confuse issues. ;)

Blogging is one of the main medium types that makes up social media, for the most part it's the text publishing portion of the equation. Along with the podcast and the vidcast, the default text medium makes up the bulk of interactive opportunities that we have with clients & customers. It doesn't hurt that the price of entry is essentially free for most individuals and darn low cost for companies.

Now I'm off to learn more about Compendium Blogware... thanks for stopping by Chris!

I'm wondering if you could be more clear on Corporate Blogging specifically vs. Social Media generally. A lot of organizations hear Social Media and immediately think of Facebook or MySpace.

Corporate Blogging shouldn't be scary. The key is to not get too hung up about technology and focus on measureable goals. Establish an ROI objective and work to the plan. It's easy to start small, get some success and expand quickly.
