At this point, I'd rather see the W3 just develop a standard for online profiles. This standard could then be implemented in the OS. You fill it out once as part of your login on your computer. It's transferrable to other computers via flash drive (and a password and some security questions the first time you use it after transferring or copying, just to be sure). Every website would accept it. Privacy options would be configured by you on the OS side.
