Thomas, of course you own your name - but so does any other person with the same name. The trick with any search engine is to push the current results out of the places that they currently occupy.

To do this, you need to be actively generating content with your name and associated meta data that will push the current search results on to other pages.

This is done most efficiently, by blogging or sharing all sorts of things like videos, podcasts, and pictures. I urge you to think about using many social media tools (the more prominent one's get crawled by Google the most), and participate as often as you can.

Answer questions on LinkedIn, update status on Twitter and Facebook, share pictures on Flickr and Facebook, blog on one of the main blogging sites - or your own!

Generate new content on a regular basis that Google can find and make it more relevent to who you are and what you do. Eventually your content will replace the search results that currently show up when you search your name.

Good luck!

I have a very good reputation in my line of work. I got an administrative action from a Maryland Regulator. They meta tagged my name such that if anyone gooles my name their Rule to Show Cause pops up. Who owns my name? can anyone destroy my name with false allegations. Suing for Libel against a Government is worthless - any suggestions?

Rob,
Thanks for the kind words! I'll definitely be working to keep personal branding on the front burner. Hopefully, I'll continue to have something of value to add! :)
