Video as an SEO Secret Weapon?

seo An interesting post over at the Net Business Blog suggests that sites that have use video have higher search rankings than those that do not.  It’s an interesting premis, especially I’m betting, if using YouTube over some of the others.

My question is, if I use YouTube to host my videos instead of MSN Soapbox, will it help my Google ratings?

  • Can you provide more information on this?
  • Thanks Florchakh!
  • It will be difficult a lot to learn how to SEO, at the moment there is a SEA of fairy tales about playing with search engines ;)

    Anyways, good luck Rick!
  • Well, obviously I've learned a bit here. I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to SEO, and thought there might be some interesting tie-in between Google and YouTube for SEO. Guess I read that wrong! :)

Anyway, thank you Dee and Florchakh for the comment!

  • Howdy, Rick.

No, using YouTube will not help you in SEO.

Dee, I bet your ass visitors won't click. Also surely embedding YouTube videos won't give you any boost. There are only some hidden links for sites that drives biggest traffic to particular videos, but all of them have no anchor text, and are totally useless for SEO, in my humble opinion...

    Rick,

    Thanks for mentioning my post.

I don't think I was very clear. I was mostly talking about having indirect rankings through the online video sites. I'm hoping to hit the top 10 of Google through the link strenght of YouTube's domain and hope that the visitors will click to my site from YouTube.com.

However, I wouldn't be surprised if Google's gives a little bit of a boost to sites that embed YouTube videos. They are kinda taking over the world :)
